UFC Fight Night Till v Whittaker Preview and Picks

UFC Till v Whittaker Preview

UFC's Fight Island series continues to be a huge success.

With four belts having been awarded over the last two weeks, the organization is set to host the final Fight Island event this weekend.

Although there are no title fights this weekend, the fight card is stacked. Ex-heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum features, alongside Alex Gustafsson, Carla Esperanza and Alex Oliviera.

The UFC has done an incredible job with the Fight Island series and this card is a great way to draw things to a conclusion.

Last week, followers of OddsBoom selections went one from two, with Deiveson Figueiredo getting the win over flyweight challenger Joseph Benevidez. In the main event of the midweek card, Calvin Kattar got the job done over Dan Ige.

Figueiredo was hugely impressive in his submission win over Benevidez. He is now the undisputed flyweight champion. With Cejudo out of the picture, it is unclear who his main challengers may be in that division.

Mauricio Rua v Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Mauricio Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira meet for their trilogy fight this weekend on Abu Dhabi. This rivalry has spanned a number of years, with Rua having won the first two fights against his fellow Brazilian.

These two UFC veterans have 70 MMA fights between them. Rua holds a professional record of 26-11-1, with Nogueira’s record reading 23-9. Each man is now well towards the end of their fight career, but it could be business as usual when it comes to the outcome of this bout.

Rua has 2 wins over Nogueira already, with the latest win being a completely one-sided domination.

He landed over 160 strikes and took Nogueira down 4 times on his way to a unanimous decision win. In his last 4 fights in the UFC, Rua holds a 2-1-1 record, with each of his wins coming by way of knock out. Contrastingly, Nogueira is coming into this fight having been knocked out in two of his last three fights.

It is likely to be a one-sided bout this weekend, with the betting favorite strongly fancied to move his record to 3-0 against Nogueira. Now well into his 40s, Nogueira is no longer in the elite category – he has looked poor in recent fights – age is catching up with him. Although Rua is not a young man- he is 6 years younger, at 38 – and this could count heavily in his favor this weekend.

Rua also holds a slight reach advantage and comes into this fight in far better form than his opponent. We suggest backing Rua to win this fight with ease, most likely scoring a knock out in the process.

Prediction – Rua to win by way of knock out.

Darren Till v Robert Whittaker

This is a really fun looking fight, and a good way to draw the Fight Island series to an end. Robert Whittaker comes into this fight with an overall MMA record pf 21-5, with Till’s reading 18-2-1. On paper – this is likely to be a closely fought match.

Till is available to back as the underdog. Interestingly the line has flip-flopped over recent weeks. When betting first opened earlier for this fight, Till was the favorite; he now holds underdog status against the ex-champ Whittaker.

Each of these men has shown that they possess enormous power over the course of their careers to date. Whittaker holds a 45% knock out strike rate and is an ex-champion. His latest fight saw him come up short against Israel Adesanya. Adesanya left with the belt, after a second-round stoppage at UFC 243. That loss stopped Whittaker’s nine-fight win streak in its tracks – and he will be looking to regroup here against Darren Till.

Darren Till was being marketed as the next big thing by the UFC – until a two-fight losing streak made him re-evaluate his game. Losses against Tyrone Woodly and Jorge Masvidal made his latest fight against Kelvin Gastulum arguably the most important of his career. He was able to take a decision victory over Gastelum in November, and has now set his sights on the middleweight title.

Till often found the weight cut draining at welterweight – and is more comfortable fighting nearer his natural weight at middleweight. However – he is set to square off against a seriously dangerous opponent in Robert Whittaker this weekend, and he will have a brutal fight on his hands if he is to land the win.

Whittaker has stated that he found the pressure of being the belt holder overwhelming – he found it hard to concentrate on fight camps – with various media commitments meaning he could not dedicate enough time to prepare.

Now this weight has been lifted he says he is finding training to be far more positive and productive. Till could be meeting Whittaker at exactly the wrong time if that is the case and could have a difficult night on his hands.

Robert Whittaker is one of the busiest fighters in the division – landing nearly 5 significant strikes per minute in his career to date. This volume could overwhelm Till, who traditionally does not mind taking the fight to the mat.

Till is also, however, a superb counter striker. This could lead to the Englishman landing a spectacular highlight-reel knockout. However – the more likely outcome is that Whittaker outpoints his opponent over 5 rounds.

We expect this to be a fun, entertaining fight. Both men have the reputation that they like to trade – but Whittaker is perhaps the better all-round fighter. It would be no surprise of this fight took ‘fight of the night’ honors – with Whittaker grinding out a split decision victory.

Predication – Whittaker to win by decision

Welcome!

If you're new to odds comparison or sports betting in general, take a look at our quick start guide and make sure you get the best odds available.

Quick Start Guide

Choose a subject to read more:

1/3

Understanding Odds

For anyone new to betting, understanding how odds work is very important. The odds for an outcome essentially tell you how likely a sportsbook thinks it is likely that outcome will happen.

OddsBoom offers odds in two formats: American (e.g. +200), and Decimal (e.g. 3.00). The default is American, but you can change it on any page where odds are displayed.

2/3

Understanding Odds

American Odds

American odds are displayed either as a positive or negative number. Positive means this is the amount you get back for a $100 bet.

For example, an outcome at +350 yields a return of $350 for a $100 stake. Negative numbers indicate the amount you need to place to win $100. For example, an outcome at -200 means you have to place $200 in order to win $100 profit.

3/3

Understanding Odds

Decimal Odds

Decimal odds are somewhat easier to understand than American odds, as there is basically only one format.

The number displayed is how much you win per dollar placed. For example, an outcome at 6.5 means you win $6.50 for every $1 bet.

1/3

Getting the Best Odds

Knowing what the odds mean is one thing, but it's also important to get the best odds available for your bets, every time you bet.

Imagine a scenario where you place 1,000 ten-dollar bets over the space of one year. If you only have an account with one sportsbook, and their odds are -110 for each bet, and you win 60% of the time, your profit will be $1,460.

Now let's imagine the same set of bets, but this time you shop around and get the best line possible, which is -105 on every bet.

In this second scenario your profit is $1,700 - a 16% increase.

Winning at sports betting isn't easy, and an edge like this should always be taken.

2/3

Getting the Best Odds

Using Odds Comparison

So you've decided to get the best odds. Now you'll need to understand how to do it. Simple!

Any odds on OddsBoom.com that are highlighted in
bright yellow are the best odds available with legal sportsbooks in your selected state.

These are the odds you should always try to bet. If you don't have an account with that book, open one and take advantage of the many signup bonuses available.

3/3

Getting the Best Odds

Take a look at the example on the right.

In this case, you'd be pretty crazy to take the odds available at Bet365, even if it's only a small stake.

For a $50 bet, you'd lose out on $6 of profit if you took the Bet365 odds over the best available line at Caesars. That's a 12% difference.

That's why it pays to shop around for the best line every time you bet. You just don't know who's going to have the best odds and by how much.

Parlay Calculator

Have you ever wanted to get an alert when your team or player hits a certain price?

You'll then be asked to pick your outcome and set your odds threshold. For example, if you want to know when the Lakers reach +300 for the NBA title:

That's all there is to it - we will email you on your registered address if and when the odds reach your threshold!
